Making Love a hit

Making Love is one of the few movies in which the gay characters are not shown as asexual angels nor as bizarre sex fiends. Without denying that its characters are vulnerable and less than perfect, Making Love shows them as having love lives which contribute rather than interfere with meaningful dialogue.

In Making Love, people and situations which are not "launderable" don't get tossed onto the cutting floor as was

done in the past. Making Love shows sympathetic gay characters in a love scene that is frank and at the same time tasteful.

As Zack and Claire, Michael Ontkean and Kate Jackson are sensitive and conscientious players who give precise characterizations. Harry Hamlin, as Bart, gives a passionate performance that causes tingles.

Making Love is a tear-jerker yet maintains a respectful attitude towards it characters.
